Preparing for the Senior Living Certification Commission's Certified Director of Assisted Living (CDAL) examination is an exciting challenge.

The 150-question exam was developed and built according to 8 knowledge domains so there's a lot of information to review, compile, and organize. This CDAL Prep Course will help you assess your knowledge of the content, and identify content areas you need to further hone your skills and knowledge.

With the help of facilitator, Diane Doumas, a certified senior advisor, you will:

Dosage and Occupancy Correlations
The core interventions of physical therapy are therapeutic exercise and balance training. It is well documented in the literature that these interventions must be delivered at a very specific dosage in order for them to be clinically effective and cause wanted lasting physiological changes which translate into improved resident function and safety. Speaker: Victor Regnier, Professor of Architecture and Gerontology, Associate Dean of Research, and ACSA Distinguished Professor

Victor Regnier is a teacher, researcher and architect who has focused his professional life on the design of housing and community settings for older people. He holds a joint professorship between the USC School of Architecture and the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, which is the only joint appointment of this type in the US. He is the only person to have achieved fellowship status in both the American Institute of Architects and the Gerontological Society of America. From '92-'96 he served as USC’s Dean of the School of Architecture. Regnier is currently the Associate Dean for Research in the School of Architecture. As a designer/practicing architect he has provided consultation advice during the last 40 years on over 400 building projects in 38 states, Canada, Germany and England. Projects on which he has consulted have won over 50 state and national design awards. Professor Regnier is considered one of the world’s major thought leaders on the topic of housing and services for older people.

Dr. Holt-Lunstad’s research is focused on the long-term health effects of social connection. Her work has been seminal in the recognition of social isolation and loneliness as a risk factor for early mortality. Dr. Holt-Lunstad has provided expert testimony in a US Congressional Hearing, provided expert recommendations for the US Surgeon General Emotional Well-Being in America Initiative, and serves as a Scientific Advisor for the Australian Coalition to End Loneliness, the Foundation for Art & Healing, and research advisory panel for AARP Services, Inc. and United Healthcare.

She has been awarded the Citation Award for Excellence in Research by the Society of Behavioral Medicine, the George A. Miller Award from the American Psychological Association, the Mary Lou Fulton Young Scholar Award, the Marjorie Pay Hinkley Endowed Chair Research Award, and is a Fellow for the Association of Psychological Science. Her work has been highlighted in the BBC 100 Breakthrough Health Discoveries in 2015, and has been covered in the New York Times, The Washington Post, Time Magazine, Scientific American, This American Life, The Today Show, and other major media outlets.

Janet Morrison is Chief Executive of Independent Age, a dynamic national older people's charity which is a thought leader on ageing and provides information, advice and friendship support to older people, their families and carers.

She is a founder member of the Campaign to End Loneliness - a coalition of over 10,000 organisations which raises awareness of loneliness in old age and what works to address it. Janet is also Chair of the Baring Foundation, an independent grant making trust which funds strengthening the voluntary sector, arts and older people and international development. She is also a Director of Reconnections, a pilot social finance initiative (SIB) to tackle loneliness among older people, and a member of Big Society Capital Advisory Board.

Learn about the latest research and search for a cure from Dr. Roy Yaari, a neuroscientist involved in two key Alzheimer’s disease clinical trials. He is spearheading the Anti-Amyloid Treatment in Asymptomatic Alzheimer’s study, also known as A4. This research studies the effect of the drug solanezumab on people who have high levels of a plaque in the brains that is believed to cause Alzheimer’s. He also is overseeing a study testing of the drug solanezumab on people with rare genetic mutations that cause early-onset Alzheimer’s.

Dr. Jan Dougherty works at the Banner Alzheimer's Institute with individuals experiencing dementia and will discuss caregiving best practices.
