Achieving a High Impact Sales Culture
Executive directors are asked to do more today than they have been asked in year’s past. Not only are they responsible for budgets, staffing, resident care, and satisfaction, they are also tasked with keeping residents safe throughout a worldwide pandemic. Sales is often the last consideration, as attention goes swiftly to the fires that need attention amongst varying operational departments. Not to mention, we hire salespeople for a reason, right? Isn’t it their job to fill the building? Many have likely heard the cliché that occupancy is everyone’s job. But what exactly does that mean for the ED, and how do we create a culture of sales amongst team members?

In this session, we’ll discuss key takeaways including:

  • Defining the Sales Leader at Your Community (hint: it’s YOU!): Uncovering your strengths as a supporter of occupancy
  • Facts and Numbers: Deep dive into data related to the EDs support of occupancy
  • It Takes a Team: The role of communication in creating a sales culture
  • Overcoming Objections: How the sales cycle has changed since the onset of COVID
  • Lead generation: Solving the “I need new leads!” crisis
  • Lead Nurturing: Best practices including a look at sales enablement tools available

This interactive session will explore multiple options for EDs to increase their support of sales and occupancy. From identifying how to be more involved in the sales process, to simply learning to ask better questions during one-on-one meetings with sales directors, EDs will walk away with tangible action items and next steps.

Speaker: Lacy Jungman, Vice President of Marketing & Communications, Heritage Communities

Life by Design
All too often, entrepreneurs and business owners invest and prioritize their time and energy to build a successful business at the expense of a successful personal life. It need not be that way! In fact, many of the habits, strategies and tactics employed with the running of our businesses can be successfully applied to our personal lives. In this highly introspective workshop, we will dig deep to discover the things we value most for life, and how best to achieve and accomplish them. Several outcomes will be a more balanced life, a prioritization of actions to build a quality life along with a quality business, and a system with processes to make this an integral component of one’s life as opposed to an “event.”

Key areas covered include:

  • Success Stories-Look at what others have done.
  • A Time to Think- Setting the table.
  • Becoming Your Own Futurist-Your Life, the overview.
  • The Scenario Plan- 4 Critical Issues in becoming your own futurist.
  • Reality is What You Make It- We must know where we are going and have a plan.

Are We Reaching Older Americans as Employees as well as Residents?

Crucial Conversation: Equity, Inclusion, and the Future of Work in a Post-Pandemic World

May 17, 2020 By

Our society is grappling with a legacy of discrimination and unequal opportunity. The Black Lives Matter movement has resonated within senior living providers, especially as our frontline workforce generally includes a high percentage of immigrants and people of color. Many owners and operators have seized the moment to hold listening sessions, explore biases, and examine diversity and inclusion at every level of their organizations.

COVID-19 has brought even greater poignancy to this topic, with a sudden focus on flexible schedules, access to transportation and childcare, leave policies, safe working environments, and more. This is a watershed moment in our history and our industry.

Voice-Tech and Senior Living: Why it Matters

Relationships, rather than tasks, are the focus in this holistic approach assuring quality of life for the whole person. It means encouraging a resident’s creative passions as well as understanding culturally, spiritually, and socially who they are. Residents suffering from dementia deal daily with the theft of their memories and identities. Additionally, recent statistics show that those diagnosed with dementia from the LGBT population face uniquely challenging circumstances in that they are twice as likely to age without a spouse or partner, and three to four times less likely to have children. 40% of LGBT older people in their 60s and 70s say that their health care providers do not know their sexual orientations. All these factors make “person centered care” a challenge in a memory care environment. This session will provide you with the latest methods and strategies to ensure you are meeting the emotional and lifestyle needs of your memory care residents.

Safeguarding Against the Next Coronavirus

May 17, 2020 By

Statistics for serious infections contracted by long term care residents are sobering: between 1 and 3 million contract a serious infection annually, even under normal operating conditions. These infections are increasingly becoming antimicrobial resistant and lethal, causing over 380,000 deaths per year in the U.S. alone. While senior living has always been hyper-vigilant to contain outbreaks, COVID-19 has upped the ante for infection control across the continuum of care, including the need to effectively balance infection prevention and safety with operational efficiency. Topics such as isolation practices and their impact on resident quality of life, as well as the role of testing and health screening for residents and employees, will also be discussed.

Navigating the Cannabis Conundrum

May 17, 2020 By

Marijuana for medicinal use is legal in 29 states and the District of Columbia – however, on a federal level marijuana is illegal, and is listed as a Schedule 1 controlled substance by the U.S Drug Enforcement Administration. Such federal preemptive and state exception issues make this an operational problem for senior living. Additionally, psychopharmacological effects associated with marijuana use can present risk management issues to communities. Policies around storage, administration, usage areas, care planning, and communication are vital in balancing resident rights against potential risks to your staff and business. This session will provide a roadmap for navigating the cannabis conundrum.

How Telehealth will Impact Care in Senior Living Environments

May 15, 2020 By

Telehealth’s benefits of convenience, chronic disease management, and better care coordination are widely known. The pandemic has added other benefits directly related to the senior living industry: reduced exposure of third-party providers to vulnerable residents; improved billing and reimbursement models from CMS; and HIPAA flexibility during the crisis. What capabilities could telehealth provide related to testing and screening for the next wave of COVID-19? What will the long-term impact be to senior living organizations as telehealth implementations progress and resident adoption increases? What impact might telehealth have on community staffing levels? One thing is certain: telehealth is here to stay. Engagement in the New Normal

May 15, 2020 By

In today’s environment, “selling” assisted living to the consumer will need to focus not just on safety, but also socialization. The word “isolation” takes on a new meaning when quarantine is required and not optional. Operators need to ensure physical isolation does not lead to social isolation.

The new normal will be finding ways to keep people engaged in a modified way. Studies have shown that social isolation and loneliness affect over half of seniors in care. Senior living provides congregant living that can mitigate this, however, with mitigation and containment measures related to COVID-19 and slow lifting of restrictions of group programming and visitors, how do we provide and “sell” engagement, today and tomorrow?

How can we draw those seniors into support circles of fellow residents or supportive family members? How can we provide a supportive, safe and fun quality of life? This session will feature strategies and solutions to the problem of engagement in the New Normal.

Making the Move to Omnichannel Marketing

Insights from the C-Suite: Getting Ahead of the COVID-19 Crisis

May 14, 2020 By

While senior living as an industry has always been prepared for “cold and flu season,” this year’s pandemic has been characterized by some as a “black swan event” – unpredictable, severely impactful, yet to some in hindsight, foreseeable. The danger of calling this a “black swan event” is that we will fail to prepare for the next one.

What’s beyond COVID-19? Has the pandemic permanently impacted the consumer’s view of our inherent value proposition? How far should we go to balance the need seniors have for social interaction against the risks involved with another pandemic? One thing is for certain: senior living as an industry is now viewed as part of the continuum of care. Join this thoughtful conversation, as we envision senior living’s post-COVID future.
